Beginning Skills
The KeyTrain Beginning Skills™ series is a tool for those persons needing additional assistance to master the tools required for basic workplace literacy. Specifically, this series is intended to assist in the fundamental prerequisite skills that should be mastered before beginning the traditional KeyTrain curriculum series. Accordingly, these are also the skills that would assist a person in being able to achieve a score on the ACT WorkKeys® assessments, particularly in Applied Mathematics and Reading for Information. Additionally, other lower-level WorkKeys skills are included in the standard KeyTrain curriculum.
The KeyTrain Beginning Skills series is not organized by WorkKeys levels. The lack of clear definition of these levels, the difficulty in accurately assessing at these levels, and the business-driven need to achieve all the skills at these levels makes this organization undesirable. Instead, this series is organized by a series of specific skill objectives. These objectives represent the individual components and building blocks required to learn and demonstrate basic math and reading skills. The series includes two computer-based "pretests", or diagnostic tools - one for language and one for mathematics - that can automatically assign the appropriate skill objectives for each student.
