Locating Information
Locating Information is the skill of finding, extracting, understanding
and using information that is not in the form of normal text. These
types of documents include charts, graphs, tables, forms, maps and
drawings. Many traditional school curricula do not treat this as a
separate topic. Companies find that this is one of the areas where tools
such as KeyTrain are most needed. KeyTrain examines all of the document
types identified in ACT suggested curriculum.
At lower levels each type of graphic is
examined individually. These include pie charts, bar charts, line
graphs, tables, maps, diagrams and gauges. At higher levels, emphasis is
placed on summarizing information in graphics, relating or combining
information in multiple graphics, and understanding unfamiliar and
complex new types of graphical information. For complex graphics, the
user can easily zoom up to full screen views, or print out high quality
work sheets.
