WorkKeys Skill Areas and Levels
WorkKeys groups basic workplace skills into eight skill areas. The emphasis of these skills is the application of knowledge to practical, workplace situations. These skill areas are:

  • Reading for Information
  • Applied Mathematics
  • Locating Information (graphical information)
  • Applied Technology
  • Writing
  • Listening
  • Observation
  • Teamwork

The skills required or demonstrated in each skill area are measured on a numerical scale. These scales are criterion based - each skill level represents a specific set of skills that is well defined and measurable. Note that these levels are not norm-referenced and do not correspond in any way to grade levels.
